Why Kundli Matching Still Matters in Modern Marriages

Even in love marriages, families still turn to kundli matching — here's what it genuinely reveals about a couple's long-term compatibility.

Marriage has changed a great deal in the last few decades. Young people meet through friends, through work, through apps, and many couples choose each other long before any family conversation begins. Yet even in these modern love marriages, I find that families still ask me one question sooner or later: "Should we get the kundlis matched?"

In my practice, I have seen that this is not old-fashioned superstition holding on out of habit. It comes from a genuine, older wisdom that families sense is still useful, even if they cannot always explain why.

Why do people still believe in kundli matching today?

Marriage in Vedic thought is not only a personal decision but a joining of two life paths, two temperaments, and two families. Kundli matching looks at the birth charts of both partners to understand how their planetary placements interact with each other over years, not just in the excitement of the first months.

I always tell people that love is essential, but love alone does not tell you how two people will handle stress, finances, in-laws, or long stretches of ordinary life together. That is where a chart can offer a quieter, longer view.

What does kundli matching actually check?

Traditionally, guna milan examines eight specific areas of compatibility between two charts — including temperament, mutual affection, health, and family harmony — based on the position of the Moon in each person's chart. It also looks separately at doshas such as manglik dosha, which relate to the placement of Mars.

None of this replaces conversation, values, or shared goals. It simply adds another layer of understanding.

Is kundli matching only for arranged marriages?

Not at all. I have matched charts for many couples who were already deeply in love and fully decided on marriage. In these cases, matching is not used to approve or block the relationship — it is used to understand where the couple may need patience with each other, and which remedies, if any, can support harmony.

I have often seen couples where the family was initially anxious about a low score, only to find, once we looked closely, that the specific areas of concern were minor and manageable with awareness and a few simple remedial practices.

A balanced way to use this tool

Kundli matching works best as guidance, not as a verdict. A chart can highlight tendencies; it cannot describe the whole of a person's character, their willingness to grow, or their capacity for love and compromise.

I have never believed in using astrology to frighten people out of a relationship they are genuinely happy in. My role is to give you an honest reading — the strengths, the areas needing attention, and practical remedies where relevant — so that you enter marriage with your eyes open, not with fear.

If you are considering marriage and would like an honest, detailed reading of your charts, I invite you to book a confidential consultation with me. We will go through your compatibility together, with clarity and care, not judgment.
