Common Remedies for Mangal Dosha Explained
From mantra practice to Kumbh Vivah, here are the traditional remedies for mangal dosha and why none of them are a magic fix.
Whenever I confirm that someone has mangal dosha in their chart, the very next question is almost always the same: "What can we do about it?" I understand this urgency, and I am glad to say that Vedic tradition offers several well-established remedial practices. What I always add, gently but firmly, is that remedies support a person — they are not magic guarantees.
Why are remedies suggested for mangal dosha?
In Vedic thought, planets are not seen as fixed, unchangeable forces. Remedies, or upay, are traditional practices believed to help balance a planet's energy — in this case, softening the more intense or restless qualities associated with Mars, so that its influence on marriage and temperament becomes easier to manage.
I explain remedies to clients as supportive practices, done with sincerity and consistency, alongside the ordinary effort every marriage requires.
What are some traditional remedies?
Several remedies are commonly suggested for mangal dosha, depending on the specific chart:
- Worship and mantra practice directed toward Lord Hanuman or Lord Mangal (Mars) is one of the most widely followed traditional remedies, often observed on Tuesdays.
- Fasting on Tuesdays, observed with discipline, is another long-practised remedy associated with Mars.
- Kumbh Vivah, a symbolic ritual marriage performed before the actual wedding in certain traditions, is sometimes recommended in specific chart situations.
- Wearing gemstones, such as red coral, is occasionally suggested — though I am always careful to recommend this only after a detailed chart study, since gemstone remedies are not universally suitable for everyone.
- Charitable acts, such as donating red lentils, jaggery, or supporting causes related to land or shelter, are also traditionally associated with easing Mars-related influences.
Are remedies a guarantee?
I always tell my clients honestly: no remedy erases a placement in the chart, and no remedy replaces the real work of a marriage — communication, patience, and mutual respect. What remedies are believed to do, within this tradition, is ease intensity and support a calmer expression of the same planetary energy.
I have often seen families treat remedies as a checklist to complete once and forget. I encourage a different mindset — approach remedies as a sincere, ongoing practice, similar to how any meaningful habit works, rather than a one-time fix.
A grounded approach to remedies
Not every remedy suits every chart, and not everyone needs the same one. Before recommending anything, I look carefully at the specific placement of Mars, its house, and the rest of the chart, because a remedy suggested without this context can be more ritual than genuinely helpful.
If you have been told you need mangal dosha remedies and want to understand which ones genuinely apply to your chart, I invite you to a confidential consultation, where we will look at your placement carefully before recommending anything at all.
