Vivah Muhurat 2027: How to Choose the Right Wedding Date

Every year around this time, families begin asking me for the coming year's vivah muhurat dates. And every year I give the same answer first: a printed list of auspicious days is a starting point, not the decision.

A muhurat is a personalised calculation. Two couples marrying on the same date can have very different charts working for them.

What makes a date auspicious for marriage?

Traditionally, a vivah muhurat is examined through several layers together — the tithi, the nakshatra, the weekday, the yoga and karana, the position of Jupiter and Venus, and the lagna at the chosen hour. Certain nakshatras such as Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Uttarashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati are classically favoured for marriage.

Equally important is what to avoid. Periods when Jupiter or Venus are combust, the Chaturmas months, Kharmas (when the Sun transits Sagittarius and Pisces), and eclipse periods are traditionally set aside.

Why 2027 dates need your charts, not just a list

Here is the part most online lists skip. A date that is generally auspicious can still be unsuitable for a particular couple — for example, if the marriage lagna falls in the bride's 8th house from her Moon, or if the day's nakshatra clashes with the groom's janma nakshatra.

I have often seen families lock a date months in advance because it appeared on a general list, and only then bring me the kundlis. Sometimes it is fine. Sometimes a shift of a few hours in the same day resolves the issue completely — which is why I prefer to be consulted before the hall is booked, not after.

Practical guidance for planning

• Shortlist two or three months that work for both families first.
• Bring both birth details — date, exact time and place — so the muhurat can be fitted to the couple, not just the calendar.
• Remember that the muhurat hour matters as much as the day. The lagna rising at the time of the pheras is a real factor.
• Do not panic if a preferred date is not ideal. There is almost always a workable alternative within the same season.

What a muhurat can and cannot do
