How is the birth number actually calculated?

Your birth number is simply derived from the day of the month you were born, reduced to a single digit. For example, someone born on the 23rd would add 2 and 3 to get 5; someone born on the 7th keeps 7 as it is.

Each birth number, 1 through 9, is traditionally associated with a ruling planet and a set of core personality tendencies in numerology.

What do the numbers traditionally suggest?

Broadly, and only as general tendencies rather than fixed rules:
