The 7th house is the room. The 7th lord is the person who holds the key to it. Where that lord sits, and how well it is placed, shapes almost everything that follows.

What does the 7th house lord signify?

The 7th house lord is simply the ruler of the sign falling in your 7th house. It carries the affairs of marriage wherever it goes in the chart. If it sits in a good house, well aspected and strong, marriage tends to bring support, stability and growth. If it is weak, combust or badly placed, the same area of life asks for more patience and more effort.

How its placement changes the marriage

A few patterns I see repeatedly in practice:

• 7th lord in the 1st or 7th — marriage becomes central to the person's identity; the partner is usually prominent in their life.
• 7th lord in the 10th — the spouse often supports or influences career, or is met through work.
• 7th lord in the 12th — a partner from a distant place or different background is common, and privacy matters to the marriage.
